The Maps Experience team builds the backend services and technologies that power map-based experiences for millions of users across Uber's Rider and Earner applications. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, build, and scale high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems that serve map, location, and geospatial data, enabling critical experiences such as pickup and dropoff, airport wayfinding, and real-time map interactions.

You'll tackle challenging engineering problems where performance, reliability, and scalability are essential, while driving architectural improvements and owning services end-to-end, from initial design to production operations. Working closely with mobile engineers, Maps platform teams, and cross-functional partners, you'll help shape the next generation of Uber's map experiences and build systems that directly impact how millions of people navigate and move around the world every day

What you'll do

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that serve map, location, and geospatial data to millions of users across Uber's applications. Build and optimize high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems that power real-time map experiences, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance at global scale. Own backend systems end-to-end, from architecture and implementation to deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement in production.
